jessMontreal, Quebec’s, Jessika Black has been named the North Starz.ca Wrestler of the Month for October.  Black has burst her way on to the wrestling scene in 2015 and she has mowed down the competition in Quebec and was able to pull off a huge upset over the legend LuFisto and in the process captured the NCW Femmes Fatales Championship.

a

Black would go on to successfully defend her championship in Europe over the summer.  She has taken on all comers thus far in her championship reign and there is no doubt that she will continue to dominate the competition through the rest of 2015 and on into 2016.

a

Congratulations to Jessika Black and North Starz wishes you all the best in your championship reign.

Courtney Rush has changed.

Her passion for wrestling hasn’t wavered. Her skills have not diminished. She is stronger, leaner, and faster than she has ever been.

But something still seems off.

The Winnipeg native has always been quirky. For years, she has delighted fans not only with her wrestling but with her charisma and energy — her dancing to her entrance music “Bad Medicine,” her smiling interaction with the fans, and her overall upbeat, carefree demeanor. These are some of the qualities that have helped her become an international star, having held the Bellatrix (England) championship, the NCW Femmes Fatales title, and becoming a top contender in SHIMMER — and heading to next weekend’s tapings in Chicago. Knocking back coffee outside Starbucks as a sky-train screeches to a stop nearby, Catherine Ann Power seems at first glance like your average eccentric Vancouverite in her denims and punk tee-shirt.

a

When asked to describe herself, Power mentions her obsessive caffeine habit, her natural introversion, and her tendency toward being a complete geek. As if to illustrate her point, she laughs a bit at her own expense, during which a snort escapes her nose.

a

“Because I’ve broken it three times,” she quips.  Read More

Tables, ladders and chairs, oh my.

Using those items as weapons will not only be within the rules, it will be encouraged in the main event of the Vancouver Island Pro Wrestling card this Saturday (Sept. 26) in Nanaimo.

a

In what is being billed as a Canadian first, women wrestlers will be competing in a tables, ladders and chairs match. Port Alberni’s Riea Von Slasher will take on American competitors Krystal Bubbles and Mary Jane Payne in a triple-threat match to determine the first-ever VIPW women’s champion.

a

Von Slasher doesn’t shy away from violent bouts. The last time she faced Bubbles, it was a casket match and Von Slasher bloodied her opponent’s face by stomping it onto a steel casket.

a

Von Slasher also wrestled a ladder match this past spring and while she said “there’s more pain involved,” she plans to dish out more than she takes.  Read More

On September 19th 2015, NCW wrestling held Invasion de la Rive-Nord at the Centre Culturel et Communautaire in Ste-Thérèse, Quebec and featured a Triple Threat Match for the NCW Femmes Fatales Championship.  Jessika Black has surprised many by winning the NCW Femmes Fatales Championship against Lufisto.  Black did not hesitate to put the championship on the line and or take on any challengers as she did so against two top contenders Stacy Thibault and Mary Lee Rose.

a

Black and Rose attacked Stacy early in the match and Thibault had to retreat outside the ring to regain her senses.  Rose and Black then began to fight it out but neither wrestler could game an clear advantage however Thibault was waiting for her chance to attack.  When Rose tried to hit her Boom Boom Pow finisher on Black Thibault was ready and hit her with a vicious clothesline.  Thibault went straight tow ork on the champion while Rose was outside of the ring and focused on Black’s left who was in serious trouble at this point of the bout.  However, Rose got back into the fight and broke up a near winning pinfall. Rose is on fire and tried to exact some revenge on Thibault with some kicks to the face in the corner.  At this point in the match it was the champion who would get her second wind and almost beat Rose but once again Thibault would break up the pin at the last second! In the end Jessika Black took advantage of a stunned Thibault and hit her Maiden Voyage finisher to pick up the win!

On Sunday September 13th, 2015, from Toronto, Ontario, Smash Wrestling held its annual CANUSA Classic which once again saw some of the greatest women stars in all of wrestling compete for their respective countries.  Unfortunately for Team Canada it would be Team USA who would go on to ultimate victory 4-2 after the Midwest Militia defeated the Canadian Ninjas.  However, in the Main Event of the evening Courtney Rush would defeat Jessicka Havoc in an epic battle which would go on to be deemed the match of the night.
