I had the opportunity to recently speak with the high energy, charismatic and always entertaining Canadian wrestling star Alexia Nicole. Alexia Nicole turned heads when she was featured in the Toronto Sun as a Sunshine Girl but she also turns the fans heads when she is competing inside of the ring because of her high flying and explosive style which leaves her opponents run ragged and pinned before they know it. In addition, Alexia Nicole has had an awesome 2015, as she teamed up and also battled with her good friend WWE NXT Diva Aliyah for AIW (Absolute Intense Wrestling). In addition, Alexia Nicole recently captured the PWA Women’s Championship as well. There is no doubt that 2016 will be Alexia Nicole’s year.

a

North Starz: What got you into professional wrestling? Have you always been a wrestling fan?

Alexia Nicole
: I got into wrestling the same way that most people did, I watched it on tv when I was younger and always wanted to do it.

a

North Starz: You are one of the toughest wrestlers that I have ever seen battling through some tough injuries thus far in your career. How are you feeling now?

Alexia Nicole
: I feel better than ever. Every now and then I feel a little sore but that just comes with the business.

a

North Starz: What is the most significant moment of your career thus far?

Alexia Nicole
: My most significant moment would still have to be my AIW debut last year. That show really got my name out there. (continue reading…)

I recently had the opportunity to interview the sensational Gisele Shaw. Shaw has been wowing wrestling fans throughout the Prairies and Western Canada this past year. This Storm Wrestling Academy graduate is more than willing to meet any challenger inside the squared circle and is prepared to show them her technical wrestling and high flying skills.

a

North Starz:  What got you into professional wrestling? Have you always been a fan?

Gisele Shaw:  It has always been my dream to become a professional wrestler. I have always been a fan my entire life. I watched it with my grandparents and parents.

a

North Starz:  Do you currently have a favourite wrestler or somebody from that past who inspires you?

Gisele Shaw:  Trish Stratus! She really revolutionized women’s wrestling. She proved that you can look good and be a phenomenal athlete who can perform in the ring as a top level superstar regardless of gender.

North Starz:  How would you describe your wrestling style and what are some of your best holds and most devastating moves?

Gisele Shaw:  I am a technical highflyer. Probably have to say chick kick, eat defeat, corkscrew crossbody or plancha.

a

North Starz:  What is the most significant moment of your career thus far?

Gisele Shaw:  Helping make women’s matches more than just a side attraction on wrestling cards throughout Central and Western Canada. The girls I’ve wrestled and I have worked hard to get women’s matches the recognition and respect that they deserve. Women’s matches in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and B.C. are looked at by the fans as on par and above the quality of the men’s matches on many shows because of the athleticism and in-ring work we showcase. This is largely thanks to promoters in these provinces giving us a chance to show that we can add tons of legitimate entertainment value for the fans.
a

North Starz:  Is there a specific opponent or any specific promotion/places that you would you like to face or wrestle for in the near future?

Gisele Shaw:  I would love to get to Eastern Canada, the United States and overseas and wrestle as many opponents as I can. (continue reading…)

IMG_92It was sad news to hear that an injury has forced one of Canada’s very best professional wrestlers Portia Perez to retire.  Perez is not only one of Canada’s best she should be considered an elite world talent because she has enhanced the sport of professional wrestling world wide.  Thus, North Starz has named Portia the Wrestler Of The Month for November 2015 and would like to thank her for everything that she brought, gave and dedicated to professional wrestling.  North Starz wishes her all the best on her educational pursuits and thanks her for all the wonderful work that she does for animal rights and the OSPCA (Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).  Thank you Portia Perez, all the best!

On Friday October 30th, 2015, from the Agriplex in Cloverdale, British Columbia, Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling held “Halloween Hell” which saw the ongoing feud between former UFC star Shayna Baszler and multi time champion Nicole Matthews reach its peak as the two finally collided in a one on one contest.  Baszler was accompanied to the ring by her corner men and fellow Four Horsewoman Jessamyn Duke.  It was obvious that Baszler wanted to get in Matthew’s head right from the start as she tried to turn the wrestling match into a mma match as she brought a corner stool and round card person with her.

a

Even though Baszler was stepping out of her element she put up a tremendous effort against Matthews and had her in serious trouble on several occasions.  However, Matthew’s skills, experience and determination started to come to the forefront and she was about to defeat Baszler when the mma star’s corner woman Jessamyn Duke got involved causing enough of a distraction in order to allow Baszler to lock on a devastating submission hold which forced Nicole Matthews to tap out in a shocking upset.

a

Portia Perez is done wrestling, but she left the way she wanted to — with a heel promo.

a

On Sunday, October 11th, the 12-year veteran surprised the crowd in Berwyn, Illinois, at the SHIMMER taping by announcing a cumulative injury has forced her to stop competing.

a

Taking to the microphone, rather than issue the standard emotional goodbye, she told the fans that they suck.  Read More

*Even though North Starz is sad to hear about this news as Portia Perez is one of the greatest wrestlers in Canadian history and it will be sad to see her not compete however I would like to wish her all the best in her educational goals as well as on her ongoing commitment to helping the OSPCA and animals.*
