Introducing Flo Riley

flo3North Starz was able to catch up with exciting newcomer Flo Riley of Montreal, Quebec.  Flo Riley has accomplished a lot of great things thus far in a short time period.  Flo Riley has a great attitude and is a hard worker who is eager to learn. So wrestling fans keep your eyes open for this young wrestling superstar.

North Starz:  First of all I would like to thank you for taking the time for doing this interview and I hope you are doing well. My first question for you is why did you decide to become a professional wrestler? Have you always been a wrestling fan?

Flo Riley:  I grew up watching wrestling. I used to watch it with my father when I was a kid. Then, my brothers started to watch it. Even my mom at some point. I used to play with my brothers that we were wrestlers. We would dress up as the WWE superstars, do their entrances and fight a match with a planned winner. I had such great memories of that time. Unfortunately, I never thought for a second that I could do that with my life. For me, it was only, men and women fighting on my TV. But, I was also so young. Then, WWE went PG and I stopped watching wrestling until last year when I rediscovered wrestling and it was so clear; I had to do this. I was 21 years old. For me it was now or never and that’s it so last September, I started to train to become a professional wrestler.

North Starz:  What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of wrestling?

Flo Riley:  Honestly, I don’t have much free time with wrestling but when I do I love watching movies, TV shows, I watch anything on Netflix, read comics, play video games and write stories.

a

North Starz:  Tell me about where you train to become a professional wrestler and the people who have supported you the most there so far.

Flo Riley:  I train at the Torture Chamber Pro Wrestling Dojo run by Dru Onyx. This school is so special to me. The first time I walked in I knew that this place was for me but I never thought that I would find a second family. We are all very supportive of each other and Dru is simply the best. I have to admit that at first I was kind of intimated by him but now I am happy to say that he is not only my coach but a true friend. He is always there to answer my endless questions or taking extra time to help me to perfect my wrestling. I want to be the best and he wants me to be too. It is really cool to have your coach believe in you like that and I really feel honoured.

North Starz:  Do you have any wrestlers that you look up to or are your inspiration?

Flo Riley:  When I was young I loved Rey Mysterio but currently I love Finn Balor, Sasha Banks and AJ Styles. In fact, Finn and Sasha were the ones that made me love wrestling again.

a

flo5North Starz:  Reflect back and tell me about the emotions that you had when you stepped into the ring for your first professional wrestling match.

Flo Riley:  I remember that I was really nervous.  I am kind of a shy person and I always hated to be in front of people but honestly when you walk past the curtain you forget everything. You just focus on the match and to entertain the crowd. However, when I got back into the backstage I must admit that I was really emotional. I fulfilled a childhood dream and it was only the beginning!

a

North Starz:  How would you describe your wrestling style and what are some of your best holds and most devastating moves?

Flo Riley:  Good question, I would say that I don’t have a precise style. I want to be able to do everything.

North Starz:  Thus far in your career who has been your toughest opponent that you have faced?  What are your personal feelings about them?

Flo Riley:  Each opponent is a different challenge which I enjoy. Although, for me, the toughest match I had was a handicap match. Two on one is never easy. Especially when they cheat like Kaitlin Diemond did in our match.

flo2North Starz:  Is there anything that you would like to say to wrestling fans?

Flo Riley:  Thank you for all the support, I really appreciate. I really love what I do, so it is cool that the fans love it too.

North Starz:  What are your thoughts on the women’s independent professional wrestling scene in Canada?

Flo Riley:  I think there is great potential there and I am looking forward to meeting each woman in the ring when the time comes.

a

North Starz:  What are your wrestling related goals heading into 2017?

Flo Riley:  My first year of wrestling was way ahead of my expectations. I had 8 matches, travelled to Ireland, went to Ontario and all over the Quebec to wrestle.  I got interviewed for a newspaper called La Presse, was on TV two times and did an arena show in front of more than 1000 people. I am really grateful for all those amazing opportunities Torture Chamber/ Dru Onyx gave me. So for 2017, I want to continue this great start. I already started to train twice a day to improve as much as I can especially my cardio and to sharpen my moves. I have a lot of upcoming matches this fall and I really hope to go back to Ireland next summer. Eventually, I don’t know if it is going to be this year but my goal is to get a tryout for New Japan Pro Wrestling or the WWE. I don’t know where life is going to take me but until then I will train hard and when the opportunity comes I hope I will be ready.

a

North Starz:  Thank you so much for doing this interview.  I am sure that all of your hard work and dedication will lead you to fulfill your wrestling dreams.  I am looking forward to watching you win championships.  All the best heading into 2017.
